Animal Research The students are hard at work researching their chosen animal! The purpose of this research is to inform them of the needs of the animal so that they can design and build a model of an enclosure for them. The students are really excited about this project! They have 5 main categories that they are focusing their research around: environment, feeding, care, enrichment, and enclosure design.  Each of these categories have more specific items for the students to consider while doing their research. We are very excited to see what the students come up with for their animals!  Math We are almost done working with multiplication! The students have done an amazing job learning the strategies we have worked on! Encourage your child to show you the different strategies! (Groups Of, Arrays, Repeated Addition, and Line Multiplication). We are starting division on Monday!  Writing Story writing has taken over our writing time! The students are learning to use n

Bow Habitat We had an awesome day with the trout at the Bow Habitat Fish Hatchery. The students learned a lot about the lifecycle of a trout. We were able to see the different stages for ourselves! Be sure to ask your child about the different stages of a fishes life!  We took a walk through Pierce Estate Park and had the opportunity to look for signs of animals that live in the park. There were lots of interesting things to see!  The students were so excited to feed the trout. They spent a great deal of time carefully feeding the fish and watching them fight for the food. That seems to have been a favourite activity for many of the students!  Upcoming Field Studies: Here is a list of field studies for the rest of the year. Next to each date is the number of volunteers that are still needed in order to make these trips possible. Please let me know if you are able to fill one of the spots! It has been a very busy week! We welcomed back our student teacher, Miss. Bauer. We are very luck to have her back with us until mid-April! Our field study to Arts Commons was a huge success! The students had a blast learning about hearing and sound through drama and music! This weeks Science Home Journal activity is related to what we talked about while downtown! Thank you for taking these journals on and encouraging your child to try their best! This is a chance for the students to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts we have talked about during the week! While it is beneficial for the students to talk about what they are going to write before hand, it is just as important, if not more so, that their writing reflect their voice, and their understanding! Thank you all for your support with this activity! This weeks question is: Explain what echolocation means. Who uses it, and how does it help them survive? We are heading to Bow Habitat Station on Wednesday! We a

Science Life cycles have been a huge focus in our class this past week! We have looked at various animals and examined the life cycle of each. We are currently examining the 6 different categories of animals. The students have been placed into 6 different groups, and each group has been given a category. They are tasked with learning about the characteristics of that category and will then be teaching their classmates what they've learned. Social "Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness." - Anni Albers We looked at Art in the 4 countries we are studying. The students were able to make connections and comparisons to what we've learned about each country! I am excited for the conversations around these 4 countries to continue!  Math "I can show my understanding of multiplication to 5x5" We have been hard at work on developing our multiplication skills!
