Today was the day we have been waiting for for so long! We had the amazing opportunity to go to the Saddledome and have a private tour! We started our day with a walk over to where the new arena will be built! It gave us a chance to explore the sight and talk about what the good points are, and what challenges they might have. We also talked about what should happen to the Saddledome once the new arena is built! Despite the cold, the students all had amazing thoughts and ideas! After a quick break, we walked towards the river to look at the bridges that are there! We looked at the shapes that we saw in the bridges! The students were also asked to consider how they might use those shapes in the design on their own arenas. We had lunch in the Saddledome and then met up with Rick, our tour guide! We were so fortunate to have him take us around the arena. He talked to us about the structure and the history of the building. We got to see the rink and talk about the ceiling! Ask your s

What a busy week we have had in room 8! The students have been working hard on their event centre plans, and are getting very excited for our trip to the Saddledome on the 25th! Today we worked on our TWAS writing, and the students had a chance to assess their writing using the rubric we created as a class. I then took the opportunity to mark their piece using the same rubric. Please take a look at the rubric and the writing together with your child and talk about what a specific goal they may have in terms of their writing. Please write their goal down in their book and send it back to school on Monday! If you have not done so already, please sign up for a Parent Teacher Interview time for next Thursday or Friday. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Giborski :)

Today we had a great day! We spent our morning talking about what makes a good paragraph. As a class we created a rubric that we will use to mark our non-fiction books! Math had us practicing our Decomposing Dan addition strategy! Ask your student how this strategy works! Field study forms are coming home today! Please return them as soon as possible! Thank you! Welcome to November! We were very busy in our room today! The grade 3s are working on writing proper sentences. Today we looked at how to begin our sentences in a variety of ways. Math had us using the Base Ten Blocks to add 2 digit numbers. We have been working on regrouping and have found the use of manipulatives to make our job easier! Thank you to everyone who was able to return the Public Engagement Survey that we created! We are in the process of tallying and graphing the data! Your input will help us with our arena designs! We had the opportunity to help our grade 1 buddies with their math! We helped them make paper chains to represent friends of ten! Ask your child what this means! They are all experts at it now! We are now into colder weather, and will still be going outside for breaks as long as it is not too cold. Please ensure your child is coming school with proper cold weather gear.
