September 26th

Dear Parents, We wanted to give you a couple updates about the Terry Fox Run tomorrow. The current weather forecast is calling for 4°C and a light rain at the start of the run. Terry Fox ran through incredible adversity, including days upon days of adverse weather. It is our goal to continue the run unless field conditions become unsafe for our staff and students. Depending on the amount of rain falling at the time of the run we will likely consider a shorter time period outside. Please ensure students come dressed appropriately for this event. We plan to start running around 11:00 AM. This year the Terry Fox Run takes on special importance to the Maple Ridge School Community. One of our new Kindergarten students has been through a multi-year battle with cancer. He is currently fighting one of his most difficult battles to date against a disease that does not discriminate against gender, race or age. Tomorrow, as a school, we will be running for Max. September 25th

- We had explore time by the river this morning! (SM) - One of our tasks was to find an interesting rock! (JL) - We found interesting things and wrote questions about them! (MS) - Some of us found termites! (DR) - I found a lady bug! It crawled all over my hand! (ER) - We had two snack today! We had a lot of questions! Luckily we brought our visual journals so we could write them all down! (MC) - We found a random pumpkin in the middle of a path! We journaled about it! We also had to come up with a hypothesis as to why it might have been there! (TH) - When we got back to school we played Math games! Mrs. G taught us a new game! It is called Slam Dunk Differences! (JH) - Our Morning Journal was to talk about what we were most excited for today! (MC) - We had a great field trip! (DR)

September 24th

- We did Social Studies. We learned a bit about Ukraine. (QM) We wrote our questions about Ukraine on sticky notes. (AS) - We played a game based on a folk song in Music! (ER) - In Phys. Ed we played addition tag, revenge tag, and bench-ball. (JH) - Our morning journal this morning was to write a short story that included 5 special words! Ask me if I remember what the words were! (OV) We are going on our first field study tomorrow! Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather! This is Calgary after all! We never know exactly what it's going to do! Each student needs to have a sturdy backpack, comfortable shoes, a water bottle, a healthy lunch, and weather appropriate clothing! We are very excited to go on our trip tomorrow! If you are one of our 4 volunteers please make sure you are at school by 9:30 am!

September 19th

- We learned a new Math game! It was called "What's Under my Thumb?" It was a lot of fun! Let me teach it to you. (QM) - Our Morning Journal today was to write about our favourite movie! (JH) - TWAS is coming home! You must read it and sign it and send it back on Monday! (GH) - We had Phys. Ed with room 7 today! We played Bench Ball! It was great! (SM) There is no school tomorrow! Please make sure that you are on time for your Parent Teacher Conference time!

September 17th

Thursday is an early dismissal day! No school Friday! If you have not done so already, please sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference time! Please ensure that you arrive on time for your scheduled appointment. Thank you! 

September 16th

- We started talking about Peru. We watched a video of kids exploring Machu Picchu! Then we had the opportunity to write down all of our knowledge of Peru on sticky-notes and post them on our Peru board! (JH) - In Music we read a book about sound waves and how they are made! (SM) - In Science there were two jars and we had to do a "I see, I think, I wonder" page on one of the two jars! (QM) - Today we did Morning Journal. Our task was to describe a goal that we have for this school year, and then we had to explain how we are going to achieve that goal. (ER) - In Math we talked about the terms least and greatest. We also talked about ordering numbers using those two terms! (DR) Today we have field study forms coming home! Please return them as soon as possible! As well, if your child has not returned their TWAS journal already please remind them to place it in their backpacks for tomorrow! We still need one more volunteer for our trip! September 13th

We survived Friday the 13th! - We went to the iLab and learned about the new rules for it's use this year! (QM) - We did a new version of Splat! We had to explain how we solved the problem! (JH) - We did Morning Journal! Our question today was "Do you think littering is good or bad? Why or why not?" (SM) - Today was TWAS day! Please read over my letter and sign it! Please make sure the book comes back on Monday! (ER) Have a great weekend!

September 12th

- Today we talked about the Blue Zone! We wrote about what that zone is like for us! (ER) - We are almost done Saving Sunny! (QM) - We sang a song called "Friends" in Music class (AC) - In Math we did Splat! We are getting really good at it! (SM) - We went outside and did some journalling this morning! The students all did a great job writing and sketching on their "I see, I think, I wonder" pages! (Mrs. G) Please make sure you sign up for a conference time on Thursday, September 19th, or Friday, September 20th!

September 11th

- We continued working on our Saving Sunny assignment! We are getting closer to rescuing her! (JH) - In Morning Journal we had to write about what we thought the hardest part of being a teacher is! Mrs. G really liked our answers! (AC) - We had our first gym class with another class! We played a game called Stinky Cheese with Miss. Ponds class. (SM) - We finished up our Punctuation Superheros! They are looking awesome! (QM) There are two notices coming home today! One is a letter about walking trips around the neighbourhood, and the other is September book orders! The book orders will be due back Friday, September 27th.

September 10th

We had a great day! (JL) - In Math we rolled a dice and made 3 digit numbers, then we drew them with Base Ten Blocks. (JH) - In Writing we wrote about our Punctuation Superheros! They are looking awesome so far! (QM) - Today at school Mrs. Giborski chose groups of 3 and gave us a piece of paper. We then had to design a way to get Sunny out of a tower. Sunny is the youngest sibling from the book A Series of Unfortunate Events. Count Olaf captured her and we have to try and save her! (SC) - In Music we learnt the tempo of music. (OV) - In gym we played Addition tag! (MS) - We started something new this morning! Each morning we will come in and write about a question that Mrs. G will have on the board for us! This is a chance for us to practice our opinion writing. (GH) As a class we talked about how we need to behave during transitions, both within the class and in the hallways. We are working hard to get our tasks done as quickly and calmly as we can when moving from one activi

September 9th

We had a great day! (JL) - We talked about the Yellow Zone for the Zones of Regulations! Ask me what that looks like! (QM) - As a class we came up with classroom jobs and assigned people to those jobs for the week! (JH) - In Math we had to figure out 4 different problems to show Mrs. G where we are at with our numbers! (GH) - We had music! Mrs. Hebenton is back!! (SM) - We had an indoor day because of the rain! (JL) We got to eat in room 7 today for lunch! (AS) - In gym we did Go Noodle! (MS) Please sign and return your TWAS journal tomorrow! As well, if you haven't yet filled out the back to school forms please do so this week! Let's hope for better weather tomorrow!

September 6th

- We did our very first TWAS activity today! (MC) TWAS stands for This Week At School. Each Friday the students will be writing a letter home to their parents about what we did this week! We would really appreciate it if parents could read their letters and talk to their child about their week. Please sign the letter and return the notebook to school on the following Monday! Please feel free to write back to your child if you would like!  - We had our Welcome Back assembly! (ER)  - Today we had explore time! (AD) - We had a terrific day! (AS) This weekend please have a conversation about the following question: Our values are important to us at our school, what is important to  you , at our school?   (Learning, being safe, fun?)                   If _______ is important to you, what do we need to do as a class so ___________ can happen? We will be doing an activity around this question on Monday!  Please spend some time this weekend reading with your child! 

September 5th

We had a great day! (AS) - We had our first Music class of the year! (ER) - We learned a new math game! It's called Place Value Snap! (TH) - In Science we had to work as a group to write down everything we knew about the word Scientist! (MS) - We finished out self portraits for you to see tonight! (SM) - Before home time we had explore time! (AS) Tonight is our Open House Meet the Teacher ice cream social! Please come and see our classroom!

September 4th

Today was an amazing day! (AD) - Today we had explore time! We had lego, Kinnex, and magnet blocks! (SM) - We learned a new math game called Super Six Showdown! It was a lot of fun! (ER) - We got to finish up our self portraits! They are looking awesome! (GH) - We started talking about the Zones of Regulation! Today we talked about the Green Zone! Ask me about what that is! (QM) - In science we continued writing down our questions about the topics we are going to be studying! (JH) Tomorrow night is our Meet the Teacher Open House! Please stop by and say hello between 5 and 7!

September 3rd

We had an awesome day! - We started working on self portraits! We are excited to show them to you on Thursday evening during our Open House! (DR) - We got to spend time with our friends during recess! (AC) - We did our first blog entry of the school year! (AS) - In Science we had the opportunity to write down all of our questions about the different topics we will be learning about this year! (JH) - We played a fun math game today! Let me teach it to you! (ER) - In Phys. Ed we played Revenge Tag, and Animal Tag! We spent time outside! (MC) - Today we made amazing name tags for our coat hooks! (SM) On Thursday we will be having our Open House from 5-7! This gives our students a chance to show their parents where they will be learning this year! (Plus there will be ice cream!) (LW)
